HUMAN SCHEMES FAIL BUT GOD’S PURPOSE IS UNSTOPPABLE
JBU Christ for today, radio broadcast: January 18, 2026
In the stand-off recorded in Acts Chapter 5 the Apostles Peter and John resolutely defied Chief Priests furious that the Apostles had directly blamed them for the crucifixion of Jesus. Gamaliel, grandson of the great Rabbi Hillel, who himself was highly regarded by the people, quoted similar defiance and used impeccable logic which defused the situation. Gamaliel’s advice was leaving the dispute to be settled by time because human schemes fail but God’s purpose is unstoppable. On January 18, 2026 on the Jamaica Baptist Union Christ for Today broadcast on RJR Radio on Sunday Mornings at 6.00 am, Gamaliel’s Dictum was examined and applied historically to the American War of Independence, the French Revolution, the Hattian Revolution, and rebellions in the Caribbean and Jamaica in the last three decades of the 18th Century as well as to the present time. The conclusion is that Gamaliel’s Dictum has stood the test of time and therefore is instructive in understanding and responding to contemporary circumstances.
